Sikkim Independent Front was a political party. It was founded in 1966 in the then sovereign Kingdom of Sikkim by Ruth Karthak Lepchani. The party was formed to champion the cause of the Lepcha people in the Kingdom. The party contested in the 1967 State Council Elections. However, all of its 6 candidates - 5 Lepchas and 1 Gorkha failed to win. Sikkim Independent Front was soon dissolved thereafter.
Ruth Karthak Lepchani contested in the 1979 State Assembly elections from 3 constituencies 1. Tashiding, 2. Central Pendam - East Pendam, 3. Martam. She lost from all the three constituencies. She had contested as an 'independent' candidate. Incidentally, 11 women candidates had contested in the 1979 Sikkim State Assembly Elections. All of them had to forfeit their deposits.1
