Yiga Choling Monastery

Built in 1875 by Lama Sherab Gyantso, Yiga Choling Monastery is the largest of the three monasteries and contains images of Buddha's disciples "Chenrezi" and "Tsongkapa". The Monastery also contains a huge 15 foot image of Maitreya Buddha (the coming Buddha) which is most revered among the Buddhists. Among the Buddhist texts available here are the Kangyur, the Buddhist Tibetan Gospel running into 108 volumes.

All the monasteries hold Tibetan religious and folk dances during the Tibetan New Year, which falls between mid-February and mid-march.
